After visiting La Push and hearing a story about twinning wolves representing strength and solidarity, production designer David Brisbin passed the story on to Snowdon who then featured two wolves in the tattoo.
In addition to appropriating Quileute stories to create the narrative symbolic to the tattoo, Snowdon artistically appropriates Native graphic arts in her tattoo design. Particularly drawing from the Haida form-line style, the tattoo not only takes from Quileute oral traditions, but also does a disservice to all Northwest Coast tribes as it confuses and alters their rich and varied visual culture. With the pervasiveness of Twilight merchandise at retailers like Dazzled by Twilight, Nordstrom, and Hot Topic, the tattoo has become visually synonymous with the Quileute, all without any approval given or royalties earned by the actual tribe.

Wolves require large areas of contiguous habitat that can include forests and mountainous terrain with access to prey, protection from excessive persecution and areas for denning and taking shelter. There are an estimated 7, to 11, gray wolves in Alaska, 3, in the Great Lakes region, 1, in the Northern Rockies and in the Pacific Northwest. Wolves live, travel and hunt in packs of seven to eight animals on average.
Packs include the mother and father wolves called the alphas , their pups and older offspring. The alpha female and male are typically the pack leaders that track and hunt prey, choose den sites and establish the pack's territory. Breeding season occurs once a year late January through March.
Pups are born blind and defenseless. The pack cares for the pups until they fully mature at about 10 months of age when they can hunt on their own. Once grown, young wolves may disperse. Dispersing wolves have been known to travel miles or more in search of a mate and new territory. Mating Season: January or February. Gestation: 63 days Litter size: pups.
Wolves eat ungulates, or large hoofed mammals, like elk, deer, moose and caribou, as well as beaver, rabbits and other small prey. Wolves are also scavengers and often eat animals that have died due to other causes. Thank you! Main navigation Wildlife. American Crocodile and Alligator. Beluga Whale. Bighorn Sheep. Similarly, Sirius Black from the Harry Potter films is an Animagus that turns into a large black dog, often mistaken for a wolf. Therefore, it's unsurprising that there's a fan theory that suggests that Jacob Black and Sirius Black could be brothers. In his fifth year at Hogwarts, Sirius gained the abilities of an Animagus -- a witch or wizard capable of turning into a chosen animal at will.
He chose a giant, black dog as his animal, which came in useful during his time trying to evade capture by the Ministry of Magic. And never registered with the Ministry as an Animagus, which made him seem more like a threat. On the flip side, Jacob Black gained the ability to turn into a giant wolf in his teenage years.
