They beat out the goatee, the mustache, and in last place, the circle beard, which only 16 percent of the total population found at all attractive.
For 38 percent of women surveyed between ages 25 to 34, this was the most attractive. Apparently, women appreciate that subtle five o'clock shadow. Though 38 percent of women ages 18 to 24 found this the most attractive style, it was brought down to the second spot because of smaller percentages of approval from the younger groups. There's a science to stubble growth, however. According to the study, women also found men with light stubble to be the least attractive. For the amount of heavy stubble women found most attractive, men grew their facial hair out for 10 days.
But with the light stubble found to be least attractive, men had only five days of facial hair growth. Women did find men with full beards and clean shaven faces to be tied for second-most attractive, according to the study. In other words, patchy beards are not a turn-on for women. You may want to put down the razor altogether if you're looking to settle down with someone and have kids.
According to the study, women actually rated men with full beards highest in terms of perceived parenting skills. This may be because they also perceived men with full beards to be healthier and more masculine than men with any other type of facial hair. Light stubble, on the other hand, was also viewed lowest in terms of parenting skills and healthiness by women. The researchers also looked at the viewpoint of other men in a non-romantic setting.
By asking heterosexual men to rate the photos in terms of attractiveness, men judged other men with full beards and full stubble to be most attractive, and equally so. However, they found other men with clean shaven facial hair to be less attractive, and those with light stubble to also be the least attractive.
Is it because certain celebrities or publications feature short stubble beards or is there a more technical explanation? Is the short stubble a recent trend or has it been the most attractive facial hair style for a long time and will it continue to be so?
It looks like some women really like beards but other find them repulsive but while slightly fewer women find a clean-shaven look attractive, not as many women find a clean-shaven look unappealing either. Maintenance is essential. Mustaches especially are germ factories, everytime a man sneezes or blows his nose the germs get caught in his facial hair and grow. Everything a man eats and drinks gets into his facial hair and makes it smell and grow germs. I will never date or kiss a man with facial hair because I associate it with filth and germs. Facial hair on men is dirty looking and disgusting and definitely makes most men look nasty. I like to see their facial features and touch their smooth skin.
On top of it all men with beards pamper their treasure and spend tons of money on it, which is unappealing to me. Whenever my husband grows a week stubble, he complains of terrible itch and scratches himself like a monkey.
